Here are some questions that I often get asked. If you have a question that is not covered here then please message or call me and I'll be happy to answer.

Q: What happens when I go for a treatment?

A: Your medical history will be discussed on your first treatment, and you will be asked to sign a consent form for treatment. This information will be kept confidential.

I will bring a chair that reclines so that I can access your feet and you will just need to remove your shoes and socks. I will apply pressure to reflex points on your feet and you should just be able to relax and enjoy the session.

Q: Is reflexology suitable for everyone?

A: Reflexology is a therapy which can be received by anyone at any age. However, there may occasionally be times when it is not suitable to provide a treatment.

There are a few contraindications - contact me if you are unsure:

  • Deep vein thrombosis or any form of blood clot
  • Severe cellulitis is contraindicated for foot reflexology
  • Contagious disease or infection
  • Imminent medical procedures or tests (depending on the type of test being carried out)
  • Pregnancy: although many reflexologists treat throughout pregnancy, and it is considered safe to do so if there are no complications, I prefer not to
  • Clients under the influence of alcohol or drugs

Q: Will you be able to tell me if something is wrong?

A: No, whilst reflexology may pick up physical or emotional imbalance it is not a medical treatment and reflexologists should not claim to diagnose, cure or prescribe. Reflexology should not be used as an alternative to medical advice.

Q: Will it tickle?

A: Reflexology uses gentle pressure, so is not normally ticklish.

Q: Will it hurt?

A: The treatment should not be uncomfortable, although there may be some tenderness or sensitivity on a specific point. This is an indication that the point is ‘out of balance’ and needs a little extra attention to release blocked energy.

Q: What should I wear?

A: Wear comfortable clothes that allow easy access to your feet or lower legs.

Q: How many sessions do I need?

A: The number of sessions needed varies from person to person. Some people experience the benefits after 1 treatment, others need multiple sessions for more noticeable results. Some people like to have monthly sessions for wellbeing and selfcare.

Everyone is different and I will talk to you about what you hope to achieve so that we can work out what suits you best.

Q: What will I feel like after a treatment?

A: Most people feel deeply relaxed and refreshed after their session.

Occasionally people can experience temporary reactions as the body responds to the treatment; this can include tiredness, a headache, or going to the toilet more often. These are normal reactions should pass in 24-48 hours and are seen as part of the healing process. I recommend that you drink plenty of water, avoid stimulants such as caffeine and alcohol, and try to rest after a treatment to help your body flush out waste products and get the best from the treatment.
